METHUEN -- The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) at Nevins Farm is approaching their busiest season and planning a host of events including the 10th annual Hair of the Dog and the third annual Antique Appraisal Fair.
The Hair of the Dog fundraiser was founded by a family to thank the MSPCA for bringing them to the adoption of their dog in 1998. On Friday, May 2, from 6 to 9 p.m., the wine tasting and art show will take place at the Essex Art Center, 56 Island St. in Lawrence. Over 50 wines will be offered for tasting as well as beer and food.
There will only be a limited amount of tickets sold. Cost of admission is $35 in advance or $45 at the door. Tickets can be bought at Shawsheen Village Liquors, 4 Poor St., Andover, 978-475-3636; at the MSPCA, Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway (Route 28), Methuen, 978-687-7453; or online at mspca.org/hairofthedog. All proceeds go to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm. Ten percent of all wine and art sales will also be donated to the shelter.
Then on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Antique Appraisal Fair will be held in the Equine Arena at Nevins Farm. The public can gather their antiques and bring them to the fair where local antique experts will be on hand to verbally appraise the items. Each appraisal will cost $5, or three appraisals for $12. Volunteers will be available to help carry antiques.
