UMass Lowell recently presented its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service awards to those whose efforts advance the legacy of the civil-rights leader. Recipients are, from left, Campus Recreation Center Director Peter Murray of Merrimac, for fostering an inclusive campus community; Maritza Grooms and Masada Jones, founders of the Kindred Project, which unites and uplifts the black community in Lowell; and Edina Hirt of Lowell, a psychology major and UMass Lowell Honors College student recognized for her volunteer efforts in the city. Pro fessor Sue Kim, co-director of UMass Lowell's Center for Asian American Studies, was also honored for promoting inclusivity in Lowell's neighborhoods.
