PELHAM, N.H. -- A Dracut man was arrested early Sunday morning on Mother's Day after reportedly crashing his car into a pole and trying to ditch some marijuana before police arrived.
The Pelham Police Department reports Zachary Randlett, 21, of Dracut, crashed his vehicle on Marsh Road while headed northbound at about 7:45 a.m. Officials said the man fell asleep behind the wheel of his black 2005 Subaru Legacy. He suffered minor injuries, according to a statement released by the department, and was treated on scene by the Pelham Fire Department for bruising to his right arm.
Authorities reported Randlett attempted to discard a duffle bag with marijuana while at the site of the crash. He was subsequently charged with transportation of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Randlett has been released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear before Salem, N.H. circuit court on June 16.
Police said the impact of Randlett's vehicle snapped the Marsh Road telephone pole at its base. The crash resulted in the closing of the road for hours while it was replaced.
