METHUEN -- The Methuen High Rangers remained unbeaten at 4-0 with a 35-20 MVC win over Thanksgiving rival Dracut here on Saturday.

The loss puts Dracut at 0-3.

Methuen got on the board first with a 23-yard field goal by senior quarterback Austin George-Williams.

Dracut countered with an 80-yard drive that took 13 plays. The score would come on a 22-yard scoring pass from junior quarterback Tyler Bassett to running back Gabe Morales. Chris Seidl toed the conversion for the 7-3 lead.

The Rangers then went 81 yards in just three running plays. Willy Weinhold broke two runs of 50 and the scoring run of 20 yards.

After an interception, George-Williams threw deep down the right sideline for a scoring catch by senior Brian Cole.

Dracut needed just 1:00 to get back on the scoreboard. Bassett threw a 45-yard scoring pass to a wide-open Austin Bobb behind the Rangers defense. The Seidl conversion made the score 16-14.

The Rangers scored again on a 52-yard scoring strike to a streaking Cole and the score was 23-14 at the half.

In the second half, Weinhold scored a pair of touchdowns, while the Middies reached paydirt on a 52-yard run down the left sideline by Jacey Hebert.

On the day, Dracut was led by their junior quarterback Bassett, who carried 16 times for 86 yards, and completed 9 of 17 passes for 110 yards and two scoring strikes. Methuen senior quarterback George-Williams ran 12 times for 64 yards and completed 4 of 9 passes for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns.


Dracut hosts North Andover next Friday night.
