N.H. Firebirds 13
Dracut lost the opening game of the 2nd Annual Dirt Dog Invitational to the N.H. Firebirds AAU Baseball Team 13-5. The strong Firebirds team banged out 10 hits (including two home runs) with nine walks and struck out 10 Dracut batters. Michael Patterson knocked in three runs with his 1st home run of the season and Cam McCullough collected two RBI's with a laser single. Joey Petka stayed hot at the plate with two hits and Allyn French had a single. Pitcher Jeremy Gray was impressive in his one inning of no-hit/no runs work, recording three strikeouts.
Shedd Park 2
The boys looked sharp as they pounded Shedd Park 12-2 in their second game of the Dirt Dog Invitational. Dracut jumped out to a commanding 9-0 first-inning lead as Brad Keefe picked up an RBI. Peter Sawyer knocked in a run later in the game with Derek Ripa and John Cormier picking up walks in this blow out win.
Dracut lost a heartbreaker in its final game of the Second Annual Dirt Dog Invitational to Tyngsboro 5-4. A walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth was the difference maker for the Tigers. After giving up a first-inning lead off homer to Tyngsboro's first batter, Kevin Carney turned in another fine pitching performance as the Dirt Dogs led 2-1 after three innings. A fourth-inning Kyle Hould home run put Dracut up 4-1, but a combination of errors and timely hits allowed Tyngsboro to tie things up at 4-all. Right fielder Matt Robichaud made the catch of the year with a diving grab of a hot hit liner. Dracut had a chance to retake the lead in the top of the fifth after Matt Sideman reached third base with no outs. But the Tigers' great pitching (14 strike outs) stopped the scoring threat.
