Former Dracut High three-sport star Aaron Barbosa reportedly has signed a professional baseball contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Barbosa confirmed he signed with the Mariners on his Twitter account Thursday.
Barbosa, a 5-foot-10, 157-pound outfielder, went undrafted last month following his junior season at Northeastern University. He was playing this summer for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod League, where he was batting .344 with league-leading 19 stolen bases in 27 games.
This past spring Barbosa batted .307 for Northeastern and was a second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection.
In Northeastern's annual exhibition game against the Red Sox in Fort Myers in February, Barbosa singled off Joel Hanrahan and made a diving catch in right field to rob David Ross of a hit.
He received All-Colonial Athletic Association honors all three seasons at NU, including being the league's Rookie of the Year in 2011. Barbosa leaves NU with a .331 career average and ranks first all-time at NU in stolen bases (69) and fourth in hits (217).
At Dracut High, Barbosa captained the soccer, basketball and baseball teams.
