BOSTON -- Brenda Kline of Dracut will run in the 116th Boston Marathon Monday to raise money for Samaritans suicide-prevention programs.
She is one of the 15 people running for Samaritans. Kline, who is married and has two sons, is a suicide prevention advocate. She serves as the suicide prevention coordinator at the Bedford VA Medical Center and the lead suicide prevention coordinator for veterans hospitals in New England. This will be her first Boston Marathon and she will be running alongside her sister, Christine Ayotte-Brennan.
"It is an honor and privilege to be part of Samaritans 2012 Marathon Team," Kline said. "Running to raise funds and awareness about the critical suicide prevention activities that Samaritans carries out each and every day is a powerful motivator."
The John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program donated official race entries to help Samaritans generate awareness about the issue of suicide, educate the public about suicide prevention, and raise money. As a part of the program, runners have agreed to raise at least $5,000 for Samaritans. All money raised will directly support Samaritans' services, including the 24/7 crisis helpline, as well as community outreach and grief support services.
