Jovan Aigbekaen pounded the boards and picked up 10 rebounds to lead the Dracut Boys 6th Grade Travel Basketball Team to a 40-29 victory over Westford in the Elite 8 playoffs of the Merrimack Valley League. The Middies went back and forth with the competitive Grey Ghosts and took a 19-18 lead going into the half. Mitchell Monette's 13 points led the Dracut offensive attack with Michael Patterson and Aise Pream chipping in 6 points each as Kevin Carney (4), Josh Hastie (4), Cam McCullough (4), Jeremy Gray (2) and Tyler Pacheco (1) also scored. Jaeden Hylton (1), William Peters (1), and Colby Manzueta (1) collected rebounds as the 21-9 Middies advance to a Final 4 showdown against Haverhill.
Sometimes whatever adjustments you make just don't work. Such was the case as the Dracut Boys 6th Grade Travel Basketball Team was knocked out of the Merrimack Valley League playoffs in a 68-42 loss to Haverhill. With the Hilltoppers taking advantage of their quickness, they jumped out to a quick lead over the Middies. Dracut responded by switching to a smaller and faster lineup but
was pounded on the boards as Haverhill led at the break 38-20. The Middies gallantly fought to stay in the contest but couldn't catch their athletic opponents. Mitchell Monette (9), Cam McCullough (8), Jeremy Gray (6), Aise Pream (6), Michael Patterson (4), Colby Manzueta (2), Josh Hastie (2), William Peters (2), Kevin Carney (2) and Jovan Aigbekaen (1) scored for Dracut with Jaeden Hylton grabbing 2 rebounds. The Middies finished their solid season with a 21-10 record and a third place finish in the tough Division 1 Merrimack Valley League.
The injury bug bit the Dracut Girls 7th Grade Travel Basketball Team again as they were without the services of their talented center Meghan Carney in a 37-27 loss to Chelmsford. As has been the case all year, The Lady Middies started off well and led at the break 17-15 before they went ice cold from the floor in the second half. Emily Cloutier led the team with 7 points and played solid defense while containing Chelmsford high scoring forward. Julianna Fagan (4), Lindsey Emond (4), Julia Otoski (4), Melissa Iannuzzo (3), Olivia Pantano (2), Lilly King (2) and Jaxy Marquez (1) also scored for Dracut. The Lady Middies move onto the Division 1 River Valley League playoffs with a tough match-up against a strong 2 loss Merrimack team.
