DRACUT -- Mammoth Road was closed on both the Dracut and Pelham sides early Saturday morning after a vehicle driven by a Pelham woman struck a utility pole close to the town line.

Despite the Mercedes sport utility vehicle ending up on its roof in the 12:30 a.m. accident, there were no injuries or entrapment, according to Dracut police Sgt. Gregg Byam. He said the woman declined medical attention.

The street was closed for hours after the incident. Dracut police closed the road almost immediately after responding to the scene, and asked Pelham to help divert traffic, according to police radio broadcasts.

Pelham police later sent out an email alert saying one lane of traffic was reopened about 8:30 a.m.

"Because of the corner where it happened, it obstructed the travel lane, so traffic had to be rerouted," Byam said.

He said the vehicle was towed from the scene and the damaged pole was replaced. There were no charges in the incident as of 10 a.m. Saturday.
