Patrick Crowley and Devin Lambert combined to toss a two-hitter as the 14th-seeded Dracut High baseball team blanked third-seeded Brighton, 7-0, during a Division 3 North first-round game Friday afternoon.

Crowley went the first 6 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3 to set the tone for the Middies.

Lambert pitched a hitless seventh for Dracut (11-10) to oust Brighton (12-4).

Kyle Hould drilled a three-run inside-the-park homer to spark the offense. Lambert added 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Brad Keefe contribute a pair of hits and an RBI. Austin Chausse, Adam Berger, Crowley and Joe Donnelly also had hits.

Dracut will play at sixth-seeded Gloucester on Monday at 4 p.m.

Bedford 3

Wilmington 2

Bedford scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the ninth-seeded Wildcats.

Wilmington (13-8) scored once in the top of the seventh to go up 2-1. Senior Tom Worob, who played terrific defense, lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Jared Aucoin with the go-ahead run.

But Bedford rallied in the bottom half, tying the game and then winning it with a squeeze bunt with the bases loaded.

Wilmington had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Aucoin drove in Kyle Beatrice, who had singled, with a hit.

8 Bedford (14-7) will play the Austin Prep/Newburyport winner on Monday.

In a very competitive game between CAC rivals, the Haverhill school advanced with a narrow win.

Second-seeded Whittier (17-2) swept all three games against the 15th-seeded Rams (10-11) this season.

On Friday, junior right-hander C.J. Zemetres was outstanding in defeat. He scattered 7 hits and struck out 5 in six innings of work. Senior second baseman Chris Galinos paced ST with 2 hits. Adding a single hit each were Zac Carpenter, who scored his team's lone run, Connor Rich, who drove in Carpenter, and James Alagna.

ST scored in the fourth to make it 1-1, but Whittier broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

SOFTBALL

Division 3 North

First round

St. Mary's 6

Lowell Catholic 2

Despite a strong pitching performance from Brenna Riley, the host Crusaders were eliminated at Ventura Field in Lowell.

Both teams are now 13-8. Lowell Catholic won 13 games despite starting the season with only four returning starters.

Emily Bartlett went 2-for-3 to pace the Crusaders. Amanda Bursey went 1-for-3. Riley struck out 7, walked 2 and allowed just 4 earned runs in six innings of work.

In another game in the bracket, sixth-seeded Shawsheen Tech fell in Billerica to 11th-seeded Amesbury, 8-3.

The Rams finish the season 12-7.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division 3 North

First round

Pentucket 8

Dracut 5

Despite a lineup with only four seniors, Dracut threw a scare into third-seeded Pentucket.

But the hosts (15-5) held off 11th-seeded Dracut (10-10) by scoring the lone two goals of the final quarter.

Pentucket led 5-4 at halftime and 6-5 after the third quarter.

Senior attackman Nick Carter paced Dracut's offense with a pair of goals. Tallying one goal were sophomores Max Kelly, Sloan Carter and Kyle Silva. Freshman goaltender Calvin Desmaris finished with 13 saves.

Dracut had advanced by beating Shawsheen Tech, 10-3, in the first round.
