MARLBORO, VT. -- A Lowell man and the passenger on the motorcycle he was driving sustained serious injuries Sunday morning when they were flung from their vehicle while going around a curve on Route 9.

Vermont State Police said in a statement that Aime Joseph Paquette, 60, of Lowell, was an experienced motorcycle driver but drifted onto the shoulder of the road, where there was gravel, between South and Church Hollow roads in Marlboro around 11:45 a.m.

The motorcycle skidded into a guardrail and flipped over.

Pacquette suffered broken ribs and the passenger, Deborah Errico, 59, suffered a broken hip. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Both were wearing helmets.

The crash, which temporarily shut down Route 9, remains under investigation.
