It's pretty obvious to me, from the actions of the Dracut School Committee, that its members don't read the Lowell Sun newspaper.

Otherwise, the article by The Sun a short time ago detailing the number of millionaires in our area communities and Dracut's ranking of last among that group would have given them some inkling of the town's ability to continue to subsidize the School Committee's extravagant idea of paying the recently hired Dracut School superintendent and his excessive staff with raises of 8 percent.

So much for the tripartite committee with the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee.

I am never surprised at what this self-centered School Committee does. It worries that Superintendent Stone will be "poached" by other municipalities. Is he not the one that said he is here to stay? Why it is that such a fuss was made during the budget deliberations of Town Meeting and that additional money was found after the budget< was voted on?

This seems to happen all the time. Superintendent Stone now has an additional $37,000 to negotiate raises for his district's principals?

The School Committee never gets the message. Dracut is a sleepy town. We are not rich. Check the millionaire's chart previously published by The Sun. We rank 16th out of the 16 published towns in the area, at 0.2 millionaires per square mile, or 193rd out of 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts.

We are not even in the first 50 percent.

While the School Committee continues to do its own thing, how can they expect the tripartite committee to function with any hope of solvency? How can they hope to convince the townspeople to raise their taxes with this kind of behavior?

I can't wait for the next round of budgets at our next Town Meeting.
