TEWKSBURY -- The Friendly's restaurant on Main Street served its last meal on Sunday night.

The restaurant and ice cream shop, at 759 Main St., was being stripped by workers Wednesday afternoon. The Friendly's sign outside had been taken down, and a notice on the door advised customers to shop at nearby Friendly's stores in Chelmsford and Nashua.

A Friendly's maintenance worker clearing out the restaurant, who declined to give his name, said he did know the reason for the closure, but that the branch's employees had "most likely" been offered jobs at other nearby locations.

No other stores in the area had closed, he said. Friendly's did not own the building, he said, and any future use would be determined by the landlord.

A representative from Friendly's corporate office in Wilbraham could not immediately be reached for comment.
