TYNGSBORO -- A 38-year-old Groton man arrested for an alleged domestic assault early Saturday morning is facing additional charges since police say he assaulted and spit at police officers who arrested him.

Tyngsboro Police Chief Richard Howe said officers were called to Kendall Road early Saturday night for a report of a domestic disturbance.

An investigation revealed that Nathan Cantino, 38, of Groton, had struck the female driver of a car he was traveling on Route 3, before he fled from the car and into the area of Kendall Road, according to Howe.

Police found Cantino just over the town line Dunstable and arrested him on charges of domestic assault and battery.

Once Cantino was in custody he was "assaultive" and spit at officers, which led to him being additionally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Cantino was arraigned on Monday in Lowell District Court, but the results of that proceeding were not immediately available.
