LOWELL -- A 25-year-old Lowell man is facing charges he used a handgun to strike another man in the head during a fight on Broadway Street, even though police were unable to locate the weapon.
Officers were called to the area of 559 Broadway St., at 6:52 p.m. Saturday, for what was initially a report of a man with a firearm who ran inside a building.
When officers arrived they discovered another man nearby with injuries to his head that appeared to have been caused by a blunt object, according to police.
Witnesses told police the victim had been pistol-whipped by a man who ran to the third floor of 565 Broadway St., according to police.
Officers arrested Luis Velentin-Figuro, 25, of 565 Broadway St., and charged with him assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (handgun).
Figuro will be arraigned on Monday in Lowell District Court.
