LOWELL -- Law enforcement officials are investigating a fatal stabbing on Woburn Street late Thursday evening across from the Gulf gas station.
A man, who police did not name, was brought to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington and later died of his injuries, said Deputy Arthur Ryan, Jr.
Police would not give other details on their investigation.
"At this point, there's not much I can release, Ryan said Friday afternoon. "It wouldn't be appropriate for me to say whether we've identified or located a suspect."
The incident took place around 10 p.m. just north of where Woburn Street meets Interstate 495.
A couple who lives nearby said they counted more than a dozen police cars, along with other emergency vehicles.
"We had no idea what happened," Bob Clark said.
Not long before he noticed siren lighting up the neighborhood, he said, he looked out his window and saw two men speaking outside two vehicles parked across from the Gulf gas station.
"They didn't appear to be fighting," Clark said. "I didn't think anything of it."
"It's not a bad neighborhood," said Frank Clark, Bob Clark's wife.
