DRACUT -- A 27-year-old man and a female passenger on his motorcycle both suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries when a motorcycle crashed into a utility pole along Varnum Road in Dracut early Sunday morning.

Police said a motorcycle driven by Michael Murphy, 27, crashed into a utility pole near 51 Varnum Road about 2 a.m.

Deputy Chief David Chartrand said both Murphy and his passenger, Katie Flynn, were conscious and alert at the scene, but went to Lowell General Hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

The crash caused a brief power outage in the area. Murphy will be cited for a marked lanes violation, Chartrand said. They were both wearing helmets.

Flynn's age and both her and Murphy's addresses were not immediately available.
