LOWELL-- City Manager Kevin Murphy is proposing to appoint Nancy McGovern to the city's License Commission.
Murphy is expected to seek City Council confirmation of the selection on Tuesday night.
If approved, the recently expanded commission would have a full complement of five members.
Murphy told The Sun he selected McGovern because he felt it was important to have a downtown resident on the commission, as there is a concentration of establishments with liquor licenses in the downtown.
"She knows about the downtown, and I think she will be a good fit for the job," Murphy said.
McGovern has worked in recent years for the union, AFSCME Council 93.
She previously served as a top aide to state Rep. Tom Golden, a Lowell Democrat.
