PELHAM -- A Marsh Road man was struck by a car Monday morning after the driver fell asleep at the wheel, police said.

The pedestrian, 57-year-old Francisco Ramos, was taken to Lowell General Hospital with leg and elbow injuries that were not life-threatening. He was unsteady on his feet and fell to the ground as officers approached him to help, police said.

The driver, 24-year-old Melanie Pierce of Atkinson, told officers she fell asleep while driving southbound on Marsh Road. No criminal charges are expected at this time, police said in a news release Monday afternoon.

The incident, which took place at about 8:25 a.m., remains under investigation.
