LOWELL -- Scattered on the ground outside 1431-1433 Gorham St. early Sunday morning were lots of shell casings that left holes in the duplex with a reputation as being an Asian Boyz gang handout, prosecutors said.
Of the 20 shell casings found outside, police say 12 to 14 pelted the outside of the home and one bullet apparently hit the shoulder of a 30-year-old man.
The victim showed up at the emergency room of Lowell General Hospital/Saints Campus with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Police say he was shot during the incident on Gorham Street. The victim is expected to survive.
But when police spotted blood on a step to the duplex and more droplets on a door, they entered the house to search for victims. They arrested three people, two on gun charges and a third for having what police allege was a half-pound of marijuana.
In Lowell District Court on Monday, Steven Yern, 23, of 1433 Gorham St., was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, improper storage of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and receiving stolen property over $250.
Sovann Yern, 26, also of 1433 Gorham St., was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to possession of a large-capacity firearm.
Police allege they found Steven Yern in bed. There were rounds of ammunition near him and a loaded handgun between the mattress and box spring, prosecutors allege.
Sovath Yern, 25, of 1431 Gorham St., was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana after police found a half-pound of pot.
The three are due back in court June 27; Sovann Yern and Sovath Yern are scheduled for pretrial conferences while Steven Yern will have a probable-cause hearing.
