BEDFORD -- An unidentified good Samaritan performed CPR on a 40-year-old woman who was found unresponsive in the bottom of a hotel pool Sunday evening, apparently reviving the woman, who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition afterward.

Bedford police and fire said in a joint statement that they were called to the DoubleTree Boston-Bedford Glen hotel, at 44 Middlesex Turnpike, at 7:48 p.m., when a 911 call reported a woman was found at the bottom of the pool.

A few minutes later, when firefighters arrived, they found the unidentified man, who is an EMT, performing CPR.

The woman was in critical condition when she was taken to a local hospital, according to the statement released by police and firefighters.

Bedford police are investigating the incident. The name of the man who performed CPR was not immediately released.
