Andrew Curtis and Chris Seidl both had 2 hits, including solo home runs, while powering Dracut past Lynn Classical, 16-1, in a Division 2 North first round baseball game.

In the Division 1A/Super 8 Tournament, Lincoln-Sudbury beat Lowell, 4-1, in a loser's bracket game. The Red Raiders finished the season with a 16-8 record.

Senior Tyler Schermerhorn pitched a strong game in a losing effort for Lowell, allowing 4 runs in 8 innings.

Lowell lost its first game of the inaugural double-elimination Super 8 baseball tourney to St. John's Prep, 4-0.

Ryan McKennedy tripled and scored the Red Raider run on Chris Mansour sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Brian Dolan and Randy DeJesus had the other Lowell hits. Dawy Lebron played well defensively at third.

L-S broke open a close runs with 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth.

"It was good to be part of this tournament," said Lowell coach Dan Graham. "I think it's a good showcase for high school baseball and it was nice to be included in the group.

"We had a good season. We won the MVC (Division 1), won the Spinners Cup and qualified for the Super 8. Those were three of our top goals at the start of the season and we accomplished all three."

The Grey Ghosts were plagued by errors in the field and a lack of punch at the plate in their loss to DCL foe Waltham.

Senior Ryan Pocock pitched well for Westford Academy, allowing 6 hits in 6 innings of work. Only one of the runs against him was earned.

Miscues let Waltham score 2 in the first, 2 in the second and 1 in the third, of which 4 were unearned. Westford (11-11) scored its lone run in the seventh on a passed ball.

Lynn Classical 1

The Middies poured it on at their home field in this Division 2 North first-round matchup.

Dan Zabbo's bases-loaded three-run double in the fourth inning broke it open, making the score 7-1. Two batters later Ben Gacek hit a two-run double.

Adam Barbosa had 2 hits and scored 2 runs.

Stig McElhinney got the win, going 5 shutout innings and striking out 6 batters.

No. 6 Dracut is right back into the fire with a game tonight against No. 3 Danvers (6:30) at Twi Field in Danvers.

Division 3 North

Austin Prep 4

Senior righty Nick Mulcahy pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 7 for AP. Mulcahy (2 hits) helped his own cause at the plate with a bases clearing 3-run triple in the ninth inning.

Ryan Roche drove in what proved to be the winning run on an RBI-single in the ninth.

Jack Meaney, Drew Gerety and Matt Barletta had 2 hits each for Austin Prep (12-10).

Austin Prep will play at Weston in a quarterfinal Monday at 7 p.m.

Division 4

Lowell Catholic 12

Aaron Crandall had 2 hits with a double and 2 runs scored and Andrew Fisher had 2 hits with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI while leading the way for Lowell Catholic (19-2) in this Division 4 North quarterfinal.

James Sullivan checked in with a hit and 1 RBI with 2 runs scored, while Brandon Bursey had a hit and 2 RBI.

Tom Cahalane started on the mound and earned the win, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 5 in 6 innings. Kyle Rafferty pitched the seventh to complete the shutout.

Lowell Catholic will face O'Bryant in a semifinal game scheduled to be played Wednesday at a time and site yet to be determined.
