DRACUT -- Firefighters needed about 30 minutes to get control of a two-alarm fire in a two-family Dracut home on Wednesday afternoon after they arrived to find heavy smoke and fire pouring from the building.

Dracut Fire Chief David Brouillette said crews were called to the home at 12 Howe St., off Lakeview Avenue, at 3:11 p.m., and arrived within five minutes.

All residents had escaped the home on their own, so no rescues were required. No injuries were reported.

Brouillette said it appears the blaze started somewhere on the home's first floor, but the cause remains under investigation.

The blaze left damage throughout the home so residents of two units will be displaced.

The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts was called to the scene to assist, but it was not immediately clear how many residents lived in the home.
