LOWELL-- Karen Kucula, the finance director in Tewksbury, is one of the five finalists for the Lowell city auditor job.
City Clerk Michael Geary released the finalists chosen by the City Council on Wednesday afternoon.
The other four finalists are:
* Dharam Dixit, of Lowell, the state Department of Housing and Community Development's director of finance for its division of community services. Dixit was a finalist before the council restarted the search process.
* Christopher Fortuna, of Auburn N.H., a director for JSI Capital Advisors, an investment bank focused on the communications, digital media and information technology industries.
* Andrew Vanni, of Medford, the chief financial officer/town accountant in Middleton.
* Hannah York, a financial auditor/analyst for the Travis County Auditor's Office in Texas. She is from Austin, Texas.
The council will hold interviews Thursday at 6 p.m. and Monday at 6 p.m.
Dixit and Kucula, of Chelmsford, will be interviewed Thursday. Fortuna and York will be interviewed Monday.
Vanni will have to be interviewed at a later date. The city council had voted this past Tuesday to vote this coming Tuesday to select a new auditor.
City Auditor Sheryl Wright retired in late February and Karen O'Beirne has been serving as acting auditor since Wright stepped down.
The council voted last month to re-start the search process after several finalists withdrew from consideration.
A dozen applicants applied this round. O'Beirne said she did not apply for the permanent position.
The city auditor is responsible for the approval, payment and recording of all financial transactions for the city, and works for the City Council.
