LOWELL -- The City Council will begin interviewing city auditor finalists on Thursday night.

Three finalists will be interviewed on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers. The council also plans to schedule a second night of interviews.

City Clerk Michael Geary will provide the council with the names of the finalists at Tuesday night's council meeting.

Councilors were asked to submit the name up of to five finalists to Geary by last Friday at 5 p.m. so he could tabulate the five candidates to be interviewed.

City Auditor Sheryl Wright retired in late February and Karen O'Beirne has been serving as acting auditor since Wright stepped down.

The council voted last month to re-start the search process after several finalists withdrew from consideration.

A dozen applicants applied this round. O'Beirne said she did not apply for the permanent position.

The city auditor is responsible for the approval, payment and recording of all financial transactions for the city, and works for the City Council.
