DRACUT -- On Saturday, May 10 from 7pm to 10pm, everyone is invited to roll on the river -- no riverboat needed. St. Francis Parish is hosting a Casino Night at Lenzi's, across from the Mighty Merrimack.
In this case, rolling will involve dice and professional gaming tables by Seacoast Events. Tickets are $50 each and include live music by the popular band, Chapter 11, dancing and complimentary hors d'ouevres. There will be raffle prizes and a high-money winner grand prize of $500.
Organizers are gaming for an event that is not only upbeat, fun and action-packed, but also helps the parish help others, said Ron Kolek, event chairman.
"Although the economy may be on the upswing, many local families are left behind. St. Francis Church has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people requesting their services," Kolek said.
The church has more than 32 ministries led by volunteers who are currently serving people in Dracut, Lowell, Methuen, Pelham and Tyngsboro.
"Individuals and families suffering from job loss, family tragedies and loneliness have turned to the church for aid and support," Kolek said, adding that the services are not only geared toward the parish's 2,300 registered families but to the community at large.
"Like candles in the darkness, they are the last hope for many who have nowhere else to turn," he said.
The funds raised from ticket sales "will have a great impact in the community, while everyone has an amazing time.
Tickets can be purchased through the parish website at www.saintfrancis.net or at St. Francis Parish Office, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut. For more information, call 978-452-6611. Lenzi's, 810 Merrimack Avenue, Dracut.
