WILMINGTON -- Firefighters launched a boat into Silver Lake late Saturday afternoon to help two men who were clinging to a canoe that capsized.

Crews were called to the lake at 5:46 p.m. Kayakers who were also on the lake went to the aid of the men until firefighters could arrive.

The kayakers helped stabilize the overturned canoe, which the men were clinging to until firefighters reached them and were able to take the men to shore.

Both men were evaluated by an ambulance crew at the scene but declined further treatment, according to firefighters.
