DRACUT -- The School Committee and Superintendent of Schools Steven Stone met Monday, in executive session at the Central School Office building, with representatives of multiple employee unions that operate within the Dracut Public Schools system to discuss contracts.
Following the negotiating session, which lasted about two hours, Chairman Michael McNamara said nothing could be reported publicly until the executive session's meeting minutes are formally released.
Unions discussing terms, whose three-year contracts are scheduled to expire on June 30, include: Dracut Teachers Association Teachers 235; Massachusetts Teachers Association Nurses 8; Massachusetts Teachers Association Paraprofessionals 52; AFSCME-AFL-CIO, Council 93, Local 1404 Custodians 27; AFSCME-AFL-CIO, Council 93, Local 1404 Maintenance 2; AFSCME-AFL-CIO, Council 93, Local 1404 Secretaries 16; and AFSCME-AFL-CIO, Council 93, Local 1404 Administrators 7.
The School Committee's next scheduled public session is Monday at 7 p.m.
McNamara said a meeting topic that may be discussed is the superintendent's "collapsed budget" recommendations. The School Committee recently authorized Stone to pore through this year's budget to determine which line-items he does not anticipate fully spending, so as to possibly move those allocations elsewhere within the budget to deal with unexpected departmental expenses as needed, McNamara said.
