CAMBRIDGE -- Jared Remy, accused of murdering his girlfriend last year, allegedly assaulted a fellow pre-trial detainee at the Middlesex jail in Cambridge on Thursday, according to a statement Friday from the Middlesex Sheriff's Office.
Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The Middlesex Sheriff's Office has brought the criminal complaint against Remy, 35, of Waltham.
Following the incident, Remy was moved to a separate area of the facility where he has no contact with other detainees. Remy is expected to be arraigned on the new charge on April 24 in Cambridge District Court.
Remy allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, in Waltham last August. Remy pleaded not guilty to murder and assault and is being held without bail while awaiting trial.
