BEDFORD -- State police are investigating what caused a tractor trailer to crash into woods off Route 3 early Friday morning and spill 150 gallons of fuel. No one was injured in the crash.
The Bedford Fire Department responded to reports of a truck off the road between exits 26 and 27 on Route 3 northbound at about 5 a.m., according to state police. On arrival, fire crews found the tractor trailer had crashed about 75-100 feet into the woods off the highway. The truck driver, whom the firefighters assisted, declined medical treatment, state police said. While the truck was carrying non-hazardous cargo, the crash caused 150 gallons of fuel to spill from the truck's fuel tank.
"The fuel spill was rendered safe, and there is no danger to the community at this time," state police said in the press release.
One northbound lane on the highway was closed for about 20 minutes as the truck was towed. The Bedford Fire Department is assisting state police in the investigation of the cause.
Fire officials cleared the scene at 9 a.m.
