LITTLETON -- Selectmen have set Saturday, June 28 for a special election to fill the seat vacated by Selectman Jenna Brownson earlier this month.

Brownson resigned on March 8, 10 months into her three-year term, citing "family obligations, stemming from illness."

The timing of Brownson's decision was too late to include the remainder of her term on the May 10 town election ballot. Town Administrator Keith Bergman had said he expected the board to set the election before the end of June.

Candidates for the two-year position have until Thursday, May 8 to request nomination papers, and until Monday, May 12 to return them to the town clerk for certification.

The last day to register to vote in the special election is June 6.
