A Sun staff report

Greater Lowell added 1,200 jobs in February, contributing to a 0.3 percent decline in joblessness statewide, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said Tuesday.

The Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford area, which includes surrounding towns and parts of southern New Hampshire, employed 119,400 people in Feburary, up from 118,200 in January, a 1 percent increase, the state reported. The Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner region was the only area in the state to have no change in its jobs level.

The preliminary statewide February unadjusted unemployment rate estimate was 6.8 percent, down 0.3 percent from January.
