They're awake, and probably hungry.
Black bears have been sighted throughout Westford and Littleton, with at least three reported sighting in the last 10 days.
On March 14, Lisa Grant, who lives on Newport Drive in Westford, spotted a black bear outside her window. She said the bear came out of the woods between two homes, walked down the street, then up a driveway and back into the woods.
Last Wednesday, a bear was sighted on Robinson Road, near the Crisafulli and Robinson schools and not far from Westford Academy.
On Friday, Littleton police sent out a townwide phone call about a bear sighting off Route 119, in the area of Mattawanakee Trail.
It is not clear whether the sightings involve one or more bears. Bears were spotted in several communities in 2013, including Westford, Littleton, Chelmsford and Groton.
Littleton police advised residents to stay away from any bear, and remove anything from property that would attract a bear.
