PALM BAY, FLA. -- A 48-year-old Lowell native and father of four was killed early Sunday morning in a single-car crash in Palm Bay, Fla., where he had recently moved.
Jonathan Sarakas, of Palm Bay, died of injuries suffered in the crash on Minton Road in Palm Bay about 3 a.m., according to FloridaToday.com.
Police told FloridaToday.com that Sarakas was on Minton Road just south of Interstate 95 when he lost control of his Mercury sedan, crossed the northbound lanes and rolled over.
Sarakas was not wearing a seatbelt, police told BrevardTimes.com. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Sarakas leaves behind a wife, four children, and dozens of friends in Greater Lowell.
Friends offered memories and condolences on Sarakas' Facebook page, which still lists him as a Lowell resident even though he had moved to Florida.
"I will miss your stories about your wife, kids, and dog," wrote Michelle Emery. "You always made me laugh when you told them ... such a proud husband and father, it really showed in your eyes."
Funeral arrangements for Sarakas are still in the works, but may include services in Lowell, according to friends.
"You made a difficult decision to change your life and help others," Jerry Flynn wrote on Facebook. "May God find a special place in heaven for a man with such a great heart.
