TYNGSBORO -- A 31-year-old Lowell man is facing a mandatory minimum of 3 1/2 years in prison after Tyngsboro Police arrested him Wednesday and charged him with dealing both heroin and cocaine.

Chief Richard Howe said in a prepared statement that Jaime Laureano, 31, of Lowell, was arrested Wednesday about 11 a.m., in front of 17 Nottingham Road and charged with trafficking cocaine (18 to 36 grams) and distribution of heroin.

Howe said police seized about 24 grams of cocaine and about 5 grams of heroin.

Police were called to Nottingham Road by someone who reported seeing a "suspicious vehicle" in the area, and while searching for that vehicle they came into contact with Laureano, who was parked at 17 Nottingham Road.

"A subsequent investigation by officers resulted in the discovery of several small, plastic baggies containing a white powder," Howe wrote.

Laureano was being held on Wednesday night and will be arraigned Thursday in Lowell District Court.
