ACTON -- A 74-year-old Acton man suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and back on Saturday after he was knocked off a ladder he had climbed to cut a limb from a tree.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Taylor Road about noon, after a 911 caller reported the man was knocked from the tree by a falling limb.

Deputy Police Chief Richard Burrows said the victim, whom he did not identify, climbed a ladder to cut a limb from a tree at his children's home. While the man was cutting one limb, a large, rotten limb further up in the tree was pulled lose and struck him, knocking him off the ladder.

The man was taken to a Boston trauma center by MedFlight. Police described his injuries as serious, but his condition Saturday night was not immediately available.
