HYANNIS (AP) -- Authorities say a Hyannis man used a shovel to attack a store owner who was clearing a parking area outside of his apartment with a snow blower.

WCVB-TV reported that Barnstable police Sgt. Thomas Toomey said 55-year-old William Kaouette was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after the alleged attack about 3 a.m. Sunday outside of his apartment.

He will be arraigned Tuesday. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Toomey said Kaouette saw the store owner blowing snow onto his car and started screaming. Toomey said he then said he wanted to help, but instead attacked the owner with a shovel. The victim declined medical treatment.
