LOWELL -- Developer David Daly has sold the 17-acre parcel he owned on Westview Road and has abandoned plans to seek a zoning change to build new homes in the Highlands neighborhood.

Daly, CEO of Daly General Contracting, sold the parcel to the Eastern Salt Co. Inc., which is based in Lowell, for $750,000.

Daly also received $75,000 for providing the engineering plans for his planned development on the site.

Daly purchased the property -- 207.1, 211 and 219 Westview Rd. -- for $200,000 in 2012.

Earlier in 2012, Daly came up one council vote short of approval for changing the zoning at the site between a mix of industrial and residential to solely residential so he could build homes. Five councilors voted in favor of the change and four against.

Last month, Daly filed the necessary paperwork to restart the zoning change process for the land. City officials have been notified Daly does not plan to move forward with the zoning change petition.
