PEPPERELL -- An elderly man remains in serious condition at UMass Medical Center in Worcester after struck by a car while crossing the street in downtown Pepperell on Saturday.
Police have not released the identity of the driver nor the victim, citing the ongoing investigation. The victim's injuries are not life-threatening, according to Lt. Todd Blain of the Pepperell Police Department.
The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Main Street in the area between the Dunkin Donuts and the Cumberland Farms gas station. The victim was trying to cross the road from the north side to the other but was not using a crosswalk, Blain said. The area also lacked lighting, which is a major factor in determining whether charges should be filed against the driver, he added.
The elderly female driver was traveling east on Main Street when the accident happened. The victim was flown via medical helicopter to the Worcester hospital.
The elderly female driver will unlikely face charges, though the investigation continues, Blain said.
