LOWELL -- City police are investigating who pulled a gun and robbed a convenience store on University Avenue Saturday night.

Officers were sent to Jerry's Food Store, 207 University Ave., just before 7 p.m., when someone called 911 and reported the store was robbed by a masked man who displayed what appeared to be a gun.

The suspect escaped with cash. No one was hurt.

Police radio broadcasts described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male with brown eyes. The suspect stands about 5-foot-8 and weighs about 200 pounds, and wore black sweatpants and a dark-colored sweatshirt.

Police requested backup from a canine unit, and a Billerica canine unit tracked a scent from the store to the area of Endicott and White streets.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lowell police at 978-937-3200 or Crimestoppers at 978-459-TIPS (8477).

Tipsters can remain anonymous, but can receive up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
