ROXBURY -- Dracut High senior Karina Shepard set a meet record while winning the girls' elite 1,000 meters at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches' Association Invitational on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The Stanford-bound Shepard won the race in 2:51.27, finishing more than three seconds ahead of second-place Maya Halprin-Adams of Cambridge Rindge & Latin.

The previous meet record for 1,000 meters was 2:53.26 by Framingham's Jen Perry in 2002. The meet record for 1,000 yards converted to metric time is 2:47.54.

The 2:51.27 is the second fastest time in the nation and the girl who ran faster did so during a collegiate meet at the University of Washington.

The Dracut girls 4x800 relay of Katie Colfer, Nicolet Chapman, Kaylee Shepard and Karina Shepard won in 9:34.69, the fastest time in the state this winter.

The other local winner was Burlington senior Paul Hogan, who won the boys 2-mile in 9:11.77, finishing almost six seconds ahead of the second-place runner.

Lowell

Sophomore Kaley Richards finished third in the girls 2-mile (11:05.96) in a school record. Junior Leyshla Gonzalez took fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.31) in a school record. Junior Alexa McGuire finished fifth in the 600 (1:37.49).

Senior Sam Carson placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 36 feet, 61/2 inches.

The Lowell girls' 4x200 relay of Gonzalez, Ileana Medina, Danielle Crawford and McGuire finished ninth in 1:48.

36. On the boys' side, senior Johnny Abraham placed seventh in the mile (4:24.80) with a personal best.

Tewksbury

Senior Jess Amedee finished third in the girls 55-meter hurdles (8.82).

Concord-Carlisle

Senior Meg Teitelman placed sixth in the girls long jump (16-4 1/2).

Senior Julia Gregory finished 10th in the 600 (1:38.79)

Acton-Boxboro

Sophomore Sophie Antonioli finished sixth in the girls 1,000 (2:58.61).

The girls 4x400 relay of Abby Taussig, Emileigh Glode, Brianna Faubert and Antonioli took seventh in 4:11.74.

Billerica

Junior Peter Garmon finished third in the boys 1,000 meters (2:31.88).

The Billerica boys 4x400 relay of Steve Fulgoni, Nick Coates, Kevin Harris and Garmon earned ninth in 3:31.99.

Concord-Carlisle

Sophomore Thomas Ratcliffe finished second in the boys mile (4:20.82).

Bedford

Senior Sam Bradford placed sixth in the boys mile (4:23.94).

Dracut

Senior Ryan Kerrigan placed fourth in the boys shot put (52-4), a school record.

Wilmington

Senior Eli Jennings was ninth in the boys shot put (49-1 3/4).

Westford

Junior Qadir Barnard-Pratt tied for 10th in the boys high jump (6-0).
