CHELMSFORD -- Route 110 in Chelmsford was closed at the overpass under Interstate 495 Tuesday afternoon after a tractor trailer left the interstate, drove down an embankment while destroying several trees and then came to rest across Route 110 below.

State troopers at the scene said that, remarkably, the incident resulted in only minor injuries.

About a half dozen tow trucks were on scene Tuesday afternoon, removing trees that were toppled as the truck went down the embankment. Among those trucks was a heavy-duty tow truck to move the disabled tractor trailer, which came to rest on its wheels.

The truck's gas tank fell off during the crash, so crews were also working to make sure no fuel had spilled.

Route 110 remains closed in the area, and police encourage drivers to avoid the area.
