LOWELL -- A parking ban will go into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m., ahead of a storm that is projected to drop a total of 4 to 10 inches of snow in Lowell.

Parking on city streets will be banned, with vehicles in violation subject to towing and ticketing.

Residents who do not have access to off-street parking during the ban will have an ability to park for free at the George Ayotte and Edward Early Jr. parking garages, at 11 Post Office Square and 135 Middlesex St., respectively. Those who park in those garages have until two hours after the ban is lifted -- a time that is not yet determined -- to remove their vehicles without any additional costs.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 3-7 inches Tuesday, with steady snow beginning after 9 p.m. Another 1-3 inches are forecasted for Wednesday.
