BILLERICA -- Another hat is being thrown into the Billerica selectmen race.

On the first day that nomination papers are available for the April 5 election, Town Meeting representative Dan Burns told The Sun that he's running for selectmen.

Burns, 54, said he would bring a new voice to the board, which would "hopefully end some of the issues there."

"There's a hard split between the two sides on the board, and there needs to be more compromise and more willingness to work together," said Burns, who lives on Nolte Road in Precinct 11. "There's a little bit of close-mindedness, where good ideas are being shot down simply because they're being proposed by the opposing side."

Finance Committee member John Piscatelli announced his selectmen run in November.

There will be two open seats on April's ballot. The three-year terms for Selectmen Chairman Dave Gagliardi and Bob Accomando are expiring.
