TEWKSBURY -- Police are looking into the disappearance of a 2-year-old pitbull, which a local woman claims may have been stolen by her ex-boyfriend Saturday night.

Samantha Halley, 24, said she phoned police around 10:45 p.m. Saturday night to report her dog -- named Lucc -- had gone missing. She said her ex-boyfriend had been threatening to take her pet for days. She believes he swung by to pick up the pooch around 10 p.m., when her parents let the dog out into the fenced-in backyard on Emily Drive. He was not out longer than 10 minutes, she said, before her family realized the dog was gone.

"You could see footprints right up to my back gate and there were little dog prints next to it, like they were walking out together," Halley said.

Tewksbury Police Lt. Robert Stephens said officials continue to investigate the matter and allegations from Halley. He said police were on scene around midnight Saturday looking into the matter.

"Of, we're taking it seriously," Stephens said. "(but) we also have to have evidence of anyone stealing anything."

Billerica police were also posting to Twitter about the incident Sunday morning, since Halley's house is located close to the town line.

Halley asks anyone who spots her dog -- with golden brown hair, a bright red nose and last wearing a red collar -- to call police immediately.

"He might be out walking the streets. I'm not sure where he is," she said.
