SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) -- Police in Somerville say a standoff with a 28-year-old man who held two family members hostage at knifepoint has ended peacefully after several hours.

Police say they were called to a home on George Street at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday. They say the man was threatening to harm the two relatives and himself.

A police SWAT team and negotiators responded to the scene. Authorities say the man eventually let the family members go and was removed from the home in a stretcher at about noon.
