LOWELL -- Police continued to investigate on Monday a pedestrian accident that injured two city men Sunday night.

The driver told police he was unable to stop because of the slippery road conditions, police spokesman Capt. Kelly Richardson said. The police department's accident reconstruction team is investigating.

One of the men injured said he was lighting a cigarette and never saw the car, and the other said he thought he had time to cross because the car's headlights looked farther away. The men were named as Julio Cordero, 41, and Nicholas Gray, 29, both of Lowell.

The conditions of the men, who were taken to the hospital, were not available Monday.

The accident happened on Gorham Street under the Spaghettiville Bridge at around 8 p.m.
