BILLERICA -- Billerica Memorial High School will have additional police officers in the building today after a bomb threat was discovered on Thursday night.

Police believe the treat is not credible and found no bomb as they searched the campus with bomb-sniffing dogs Friday morning, according to Superintendent Tim Piwowar.

School started at 7:15 a.m. as usual following the search of the building. It should be a normal school day except for the increased police presence, Piwowar said.

Piwowar said a note with the threat on it was discovered in the evening on Thursday but declined to say the exact time and location of the discovery, citing ongoing investigation. He also declined to say who found the note. Police were notified immediately.

Police took "steps" to ensure safety of students and staff and found the threat to be not credible.

Police conducted both a K9 and physical search of the school on Friday morning prior to students' arrival. Piwowar said the School Department could not release further information due to the ongoing investigation.
