Futuristic, social shooter "Destiny" scoops four awards, with "Titanfall," "Mario Kart 8" and "The Elder Scrolls Online" winning two apiece.
"Destiny" looks like a strong contender to become the best computer-assisted game of "Cowboys & Indians" ever made, leaving the Gamescom expo with the "Game of Gamescom" award.
In addition, the new venture from ex-"Halo" studio Bungie clinched Best Action Game, Best Online Multiplayer Game, and Best PlayStation Game.
Curiously, having been announced for PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, it was "Titanfall" that took Best Xbox Game and "Battlefield 4" winning Best PC Game, both sharing a heavy multiplayer focus with Bungie's 2014 work-in-progress.
"Titanfall," which is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PCs, was also pronounced Best Next Generation Console Game, having talked up the benefits of the Xbox One's online technologies.
"Mario Kart 8" looks like a worthy addition to Nintendo's racing franchise, having collected "Best Nintendo Game" and "Best Family Game," while those with an eye on real world engine thrashing can look forward to "Forza Motorsport 5," due on Xbox One at launch this November.
"The Elder Scrolls Online" looks to be shaping up well, with Gamescom's "Best Role Playing Game" and "Best Social/Casual/Online Game" awards added to its trophy cabinet; once on the market in 2014, it will be competing with the likes of "World of Warcraft," "Guild Wars 2," and "ArcheAge."
Following the "Forza 5" award, it seems that European Xbox One owners will be particularly well serviced, as "FIFA 14" took the Best Sports Game category and will be included with all European pre-orders of the console.
PlayStation 4, meanwhile, was unveiled as the console platform for Mac and PC multiplayer air combat game "War Thunder," and the Sony machine also won in the est Hardware category.
Finally, Nintendo collected another plaudit, this time for Best Mobile Game, for the 3DS title "The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds," which harks back to the cherished 1990s Super Nintendo game "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past."
