LOWELL -- Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon incident in which an intoxicated man approached children at a school bus stop.

According to police, the three children were frightened by the incident, which occurred about 4 p.m. Tuesday near Central and Crosby streets.

The intoxicated man, who police located walking in the area, allegedly approached the children and touched one of them on the shoulder, police said. The man allegedly told the children he was a police officer and asked the children to come with him.

All three children walked away and went to their residence, where they notified their parents of the incident.

There are no criminal charges at this time. Criminal Bureau detectives are investigating the incident.
